After a busy period rehearsing for Torquay ……

It’s back to the band room after the Christmas and New Year break, and we are already working hard on the test piece for the Area Championships in March. Now nestling back in the Second Section, we are looking forward to the more challenging music that this higher section demands.

Last year’s sojourn into the Third Section brought us unprecedented success and we enter 2017 with the confidence that we can build on our solid foundation and achieve greater heights!

Of course, it is not just about contesting, and we already have a few concert performances lined up to work on (we have already been booked for next Christmas!). Some new music is already on the stands and we will be performing different programmes for your enjoyment later in the year. Watch out for the dates on the ‘Watch Us’ page.

Saturday 5th November 2016 at Torquay: Weston Brass do it again!! Placed first in the 3rd section at the SWBBA Association Contest and also being awarded prize for the best horn section. What a year! So, come help us celebrate by watching us at Priory School, Worle, Weston super Mare, 7PM on Sat 3rd December and at St Paul’s Church, Clarence Park, Weston super Mare, at 3PM on Sunday 11th December – you will not be disappointed.

Oct 2016: Weston Brass Clean-up at Wychavon Festival of Brass – first overall, best entertainment, best soloist and best percussion section! Read the adjudication: wychavon-adjudication; Come along and join a winning team.

Oct 2016: Weston Brass are seeking front row cornet players with an appetite for competing; if you fit the bill or are interested in trying us out at a few practices, please contact us. We would also welcome a B or E-flat Bass player – please contact us if you are interested.

Sep 2016: The band played in the SWBBA Entertainment Contest in Exmouth on 3rd September. The traditional British ‘Summer’ weather ensured that the outdoors part of the competition was rained off. This did nothing to dampen Weston Brass’s spirit and the band played out of their skin to achieve some stunning results: 3rd place overall, best 3rd section band (but will be playing in 2nd section soon enough), 2nd best entertainment programme and the best percussion section (and our three superb percussionists didn’t celebrate much at all 😉 )

Further back in time had a fantastic day in March at the West of England Regional Championships! Our first year back in the 3rd section saw us placed 2nd out of 18 bands, with our confident performance of Michael Ball’s ‘A Cambrian Suite’, and have qualified for the National Championships to be held in Cheltenham on 18th September! We await official confirmation, but we have just done enough to bounce straight back into the 2nd Section for next year, so well done everybody, especially our hard-working MD, Bryn James! It’s been a wonky road, but we are now well and truly back on the straight and narrow!
