After 5 fantastic years as Musical Director, Weston Brass would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ian Dickinson as he steps down from the role. Ian’s passion and relentless pursuit of musical excellence led to many memorable concerts and proud contest performances. His musicality has massively changed the band for the better and we’re incredibly grateful for everything he’s contributed.

As we turn the page to an exciting new chapter, we’re delighted to welcome Stephen Sykes BMus(Hons) LTCL ATCL as our new Musical Director.
Stephen is a world-class trombonist and conductor with a phenomenal track record in brass bands and orchestras.
From Principal Trombone with the National Youth Orchestra to contest wins with Black Dyke, Cory, Tredegar, and Fairey, Stephen’s career includes:
Multiple major titles: British Open, Masters, European, National & Brass In Concert.
️ Soloist awards: BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Soloist of the Year, Don Lusher prizes.
Orchestras: Royal Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Welsh National Opera
TV & session work: Doctor Who, Our Girl, Sting, Bryn Terfel.
Recent success as conductor with Abertillery, qualifying for Nationals in 2024 & 2025.
