It is with great sadness that Weston Brass announce the death, at the age of 99, of one of the Band’s founder members, Ron Jackson.

Ron began his playing days with Tredegar Town Band under the baton of Con Buckley before moving from his hometown to Abergavenny where he joined the local band.

In the early 1960s he relocated for work to Weston-super-Mare where, in 1963, he helped with the formation of Weston-super-Mare Silver Band where he played Cornet, spending many years in the principal chair.

After retiring from the main band Ron switched to Horn to help at the training band, and when his fingers were too stiff, even took up the pBone!

Ron was the band treasurer for several decades and his late wife, Joan, was the treasurer for the Ladies Committee, helping to support the band.  His passion for brass bands lives on in their three children, Christine, Andrew and Keith, who all started their playing with Weston Brass and are all still playing in Wales, England and Scotland respectively.

The band will always remember Ron with much affection for his generosity, loyalty and great sense of humour.
