Our regular outing performing a Proms Concert in Bridgwater Town Hall in April was another sell-out and hugely enjoyed by all! Our soloists were, as usual, on fine form and we were again joined by The Somerset Songbirds choir, who seemed to have doubled in both number and talent under the directorship of our very own Rachel Tilling. Radio Bristol’s amazing Emma Britton was our host again, adding to the lively banter and fun during the whole evening. The lovely people of Bridgwater certainly know how to enjoy themselves, and we are already booked to give a Christmas Concert at the same venue. We can’t wait!

We started our Summer season with a concert on 9th July in Blake Gardens, again in Bridgwater! The weather was very kind to us and we all enjoyed well deserved ice creams in the interval. It’s strange how most bandstands seem to attract a gale force wind to blow the music around, but on this occasion we were spared having to chase anything around the flower beds! Many thanks to SuperAct for their sponsorship of this event.

Today saw our second bandstand concert of the season, this time on home ground in Grove Park, Weston super Mare. It was decidedly breezy today and a little chilly too after sitting for a few hours, but we didn’t let it stop us having a good time and we had some very nice comments from the large audience who were embellishing the park with their colourful deckchairs. What can be better on a [fairly] sunny Sunday afternoon than sitting in the park with a cuppa, listening to a brass band?

Up next for us is another park concert next Saturday afternoon (22nd July, 2.30 – 4.30pm) at Blenheim Gardens, Minehead. If you fancy a day out in Somerset’s premier seaside town, come on down – it should be fun!
