Wow!  Our day trip to the lovely Devon seaside town of Exmouth to enter the SWBBA Festival of Brass last Saturday (1st September) was an absolute corker!  The hot summer weather again blessed us with heat and sunshine for our outdoor concert in the Pavilion Gardens, after which we went on stage inside the Pavilion to perform our contest programme.  The band had worked extremely hard for weeks beforehand and produced fine performances on the day, which was picked up by the adjudicator, David Marshall.

So, how many trophies did we come home with?  One?  Two?  Three maybe?  No – FIVE out of the 7 that were up for grabs!  We won ‘Best Overall Performance of the Day’, ‘Best Gardens Concert’, Best Soloist (Mark Smith, our Solo Trombone player, who played an absolutely superb ‘Here’s That Rainy Day’), ‘Best Percussion Section’ (again!!!!), and ‘Best Second Section Band’.  To say we are thrilled is a slight understatement!

Pictured are the 5 trophies proudly displayed before returning home on a slightly noisy coach.

Our next performance will be on Saturday 15th September at Weston College Graduation Day.  We will be playing incidental music throughout the morning and afternoon in the Town Square at the back of the Winter Gardens.  We would love to see you there, so come and say hello, you will always get a warm welcome at Weston Brass!
